To follow up my last post about the changing context of libraries, here’s a list of some lesser known duties of public librarians. I don’t think people always understand the details and practical aspects of working with the public, especially in information organizations. Some of my favourites include “Sensitively working with people who are distressed and may have mental health issues to find out their information needs and make phone calls on their behalf if appropriate”, “Helping people structure and write CVs using word processing software and online forms”, and “Collecting knives and guns”. An interesting read and I’m sure there’s a lot more lesser known duties out there!
